My Metal Repousse Tools

Description

I've been wanting to start doing some Metal Repoussé art work for a while now, but I was not willing to pay the hefty prices for a set of beginner tools. So i decided to craft my own set during my spare time at my welding school/shop

4 Liners
4 ball ends
2 plannishers

Made from Allen/hex Keys, tool steel. I found the steel to be to soft for my liking so I tempered them myself, gave them a nice finish and polished them off

I will probably be making some additional pieces once the need for them comes around.

But for now, im just anxious to start some metal repoussé!

TIG or MIG welding different sized ball bearings to the ends worked great for me. the method I used was ; 2 quick spot/tack welds, one on either side of the shaft/ball, then dunk in water until its cool, after that I did one good tack/spot weld at a time and dunked it immediately after each weld until it cooled. it helps to keep your dunking container next to you, so you can dunk it fast to keep the heat off the ball
